ThanksForGiving

A Student journal we received from a Winona State professor:
"I had filled out a little card saying my name, number and prayer request. The next day I got a call form a really nice girl, who is my age, and we are now friends! I find it so awesome that I gained another friend from having a chat on the phone and attending Intervarsity with her. (Intervarsity is a really good group) All in all I enjoyed all the events."

Thank you so much for helping to make all this possible.

This semester the campus ministries and local churches in Winona worked together with PULSE to have an event to share the gospel with students here.  It was a massive undertaking that involved months of planning and resulted in God moving in a powerful way.

We have much to be thankful for here in Winona, and cannot wait to see what He has planned for next semester.  Thank you!

Fall Retreat '11

Thank you all so much for your prayers for last weeks Fall Retreat!

The weekend was great this year!  Over 90 students traveled to Living Waters Bible Camp for three days of bonding, Jesus and fun.  This year we had guest speaker Vince Miller come and speak on Generosity.  He spoke of the generosity of God through grace, redemption, freedom and love and also shared his own journey challenging us to take a look at our lives and realize that everything we have belongs to God and is not our own.

It was great to see college students engaged in conversations of what they can give up to help the people around them be it time, money, skills, or other resources.

Ten students made decisions to follow or re commit themselves to Christ and many more shared testimonies of how instrumental the weekend and InterVarsity is changing their life.  I am hoping to get videos up soon to share them with all of you.

In the mean time.  Here is a quick video recap of everything that happened

Thank you all so much for your prayer and support!
I hope you are all doing well!

The New Year Has Begun!

Class is officially in session here at Winona State and InterVarsity is off to a great start!

We had a great orientation week serving sno cones, playing on a jell-o slip and slide, having an excellent night of worship and meeting new students.

Last week we had our first large group meeting with 230 students attending and over 60  freshmen being connected to upperclassman to help them in their first few weeks of school.

The students said they had an amazing night and were challenged to take initiative with their lives and how their definitions of succes, relationships, and God will play a major role in the rest of their lives.

God is already up to some great things and we can't wait to see what He is going to do this week and the rest of the year.

Human Wrong

Earlier this month InterVarsity partnered with World Vision to host an event  raising awareness for child slavery.

Jesse Eaves from World Vision flew in to talk to students about what they can do to help fight slavery around the world.

Students invited their friends churches, classes, some professors even offered extra credit to students who attended!

We had over 300 students attend,  several students have been calling up their elected leaders to support the fight of slavery, and many signed up to be monthly donors for world vision.

One group of students even went and marched on the capitol this weekend to support the fight of human slavery.

God has been doing amazing things in the last part of this year.  As it comes to an end I would like to thank you all so much for your prayer and support.  Only two weeks left of the semester!

A Busy Few Weeks

We are almost a month deep into the Semester here at Winona State, and what a full three weeks its been.

National Staff Conference

National Staff Conference was at the beginning of the month and it was amazing!  Intervarsity staff members gathered from all around the country to share stories and ideas of how to better reach the campus. It was an eye opening week that really helped me to realize the importance of InterVarsity and other ministries on Campus.

The highlight of the week was a talk given by Mary Poplin, a professor from Claremont Graduate University.  She was able to give valuable insight into the role of campus ministries in the University.  If you are ever looking for something to do for 45 minutes you should check out her talk. It was inspiring to say the least.

Community group leaders and myself at the retreat
Community Group  Leader Retreat
Two weeks ago the community group leaders got together to plan and pray for the coming semester.

We are very blessed to have several individuals passionate about loving people on their campus, and wanting to establish welcoming groups to dig into the bible and share life together

Pulse
Ministries and churches in Winona are currently Partnering with Pulse, and organization that helps develop student leaders to engage their campus through prayer and witnessing.  Two weeks ago an event was held and had over 200 students gathered together to pray for our campus and see where God is moving.  It was an amazing representation of the body of Christ, and how we all have common purpose.

Prayer Requests

  • We are in the middle of planning our Social Justice campaign for the semester.  A lot of things are coming together (more info to come).  Pray that God would give us boldness, and that he would continue to give us vision.
  • I am speaking at InterVarsity on February 15th about Gods love.  Please pray that God would speak through me and that I would not get so tied up in what I want to say that I hold back what he wants to communicate.
  • As the semester begins to pick up I am realizing how much time I need to be investing into students, and how much my job at the theater can take time away from that.  Please pray both for my fundraising, and managing my time wile I still have to work at the theater.

Thank you all so much for all of your suport!
